Lassie lie near me
Lang hae we parted been, Lassie my dearie; Now we are met again, Lassie lie near me. Near me, near me, Lassie lie near me; Lang hast thou lien thy lane, Lassie lie near me.

Lang hae we parted been, Lassie my dearie; Now we are met again, Lassie lie near me. Near me, near me, Lassie lie near me; Lang hast thou lien thy lane, Lassie lie near me.
This is a poem by Robert Burns. It was written in 1790 and is read here by Phil McKee.
A second song from the bundle sent to James Johnson on April 24th, 1789. 'The title of the song, only, is old', he told the publisher, 'the rest is mine'. A simple enough little lyric in folk song style, but with its heartfelt lover's plea and haunting melody, simply beautiful.
