More about this song

'Jockey fou and Jenny fain' is Burns's version of an old song. The poet's version first appeared in James Johnson's Scots Musical Museum in 1792.

Here Burns writes about the importance of love and pleasure in marriage as opposed to wealth. This is a common theme in folk song and can be readily identified in a handful of Robert Burns's works, among them 'Sandy and Jockie'.
