BBC Introducing - User Privacy Notice

Your trust is very important to us. The BBC is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal information.

It is important that you read this notice, together with any other privacy notice we may provide on specific occasions when we are collecting or processing personal information about you, so that you are aware of how and why we are using such information. This privacy notice describes how we collect and use personal information about you during and after your relationship with us, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR).

The BBC will collect and process the personal information that you have provided to us when you use the BBC Introducing Uploader. This personal information includes:

We store the tracks that you upload to your Profile and information about these tracks, as follows:

We also store the images that you upload to your Uploader Profile.

The BBC is the "data controller" of this information. This means that the BBC decides what your personal information is used for, and the ways in which it is processed.

The legal basis on which the BBC processes your personal information is on the basis of our legitimate interests. Our legitimate interests are: providing our BBC Introducing service, continuing to discover the latest talent, supporting the UK music industry by discovering and supporting unsigned, undiscovered and under the radar musicians, and assisting artists by providing them with a platform to promote their music.

As we are relying on our legitimate interests to process your personal information, we have conducted a legitimate interests assessment to carefully consider the impact of our processing on you.

You can choose to delete your Uploader Profile at any point. After deletion it will not be possible for you to access your Uploader Profile or upload any more tracks to it.

You can delete your Profile from within the Uploader; use the button marked 'Delete' in the Profile Overview. You will be prompted to confirm your wish to delete your Artist Profile. This will remove your access to the Uploader Profile.

To fully delete your information or if you are unable to access the Uploader, you must send an email to [email protected], external. Please include "DELETION REQUEST" and your Artist name in the subject field of the email. You will be prompted to confirm your wish to delete your Artist Profile. In some instances you'll also be prompted to verify you are the account holder of the Profile in question.

Remember, the email address you use to sign in to BBC Online will still be registered separately, unless you choose to also delete your BBC ID membership account. If you delete your BBC ID account, an automatic BBC Introducing deletion request will be generated.

Please note that, if one of your tracks has been broadcast on BBC radio or has been featured on one of our platforms, we will not delete all of your information when your Uploader Profile is deleted (either because you have requested the deletion of your account or on the expiry of the retention period set out below). We will retain the following information for archiving purposes in the public interest:

We will ensure that the retained information is accessible by a small number of BBC staff and representatives.

We can remove your uploaded music if you don't stick to the BBC's Terms of Use and these extra terms. The BBC may block your Profile if the uploaded music contains material that conflicts with the BBC guidelines on harm and offense. If your Profile has been blocked and you wish to remedy and upload new music please contact [email protected], external.
