Nationwide's Richard Stilgoe explained how the voting process worked

Each region allocated its votes in order of preference, from four points for the favourite song down to one point for the worst one. As in the Eurovision Song Contest, they weren't allowed to vote for themselves.

In the end, one song won by a landslide.

When it came to the voting, the result was never in doubt.

The Singing Butcher and the Coventry Kids ran away with it, taking home the maximum four points from every other region.

Ahead of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022, BBC Midlands Today reunited members of the choir at the Horizon Recording Studio in Coventry, where they recorded their winning song 45 years earlier.
