1966: Maureen O'Sullivan on Hollywood career

Maureen O'Sullivan starred in six Tarzan films and is pictured above with Johnny Weissmuller in the 1936 film Tarzan Escapes. In this interview, she talks about her delight at returning to movie acting, her preference for cinema over the stage and her respect for the Hollywood 'star system', which created careful public images for all the top actors.

She reveals how she has encouraged her daughter, Mia Farrow, in her acting career and discusses her belief that we should not dwell on the past but live for the present.

Interviewer John Kobal was a pre-eminent film historian and collector of Hollywood film photography. The material he saved from oblivion formed the basis of the famous Kobal Collection, which consists of some 22,000 black-and-white original negatives dating from 1920 until 1960, including star portraits, scene stills, production photos and publicity images.
