The black cab is an iconic image of London – and now London taxis have been voted the best in the world.

The survey by Hotels.com asked people about taxi drivers’ knowledge, friendliness and driving ability.

London taxi drivers – or ‘cabbies’ were voted as the friendliest drivers.

But London taxis didn’t score so highly in value for money.

London cabbies are well known for their knowledge of the city’s roads.

One cabbie told the BBC about the thorough tests to qualify as a black cab driver:

“You basically hop on a little moped and you drive around London and find every place of interest, every building or hotel…

“They give you a basic book of 320 routes – then you learn them and that gives you an idea of everywhere you have to go”.

We asked people in London what they thought about the city’s taxi drivers.

One man said; “They know every street in London and there’s no Sat Nav”.

Another visitor to London thought “there’s always a lot of banter with the drivers which is good”.
