Today Yvonne and Louay discuss the results of a survey commissioned by the Exploring Islam Foundation in the UK.

The Exploring Islam Foundation commissioned the research because it wanted to challenge what it says are damaging misconceptions about Islam in the UK.

Of the two thousand British adults surveyed, 58% said that they associated Islam with extremism.

70% of them believed that Islam encourages the repression of women.

To try and counter these ideas, the Exploring Islam Foundation has launched an advertising campaign called "inspired by Muhammad" which aims to demonstrate the importance Islam attaches to issues like care for the environment and gender equality.

The adverts will be placed on bus stops and on some of London's famous black cabs.

The Exploring Islam Foundation was founded by a group of Muslim professionals in the UK who say they are proud to be Muslim and British.

Attitudes around Europe have also been similar with a number of surveys also showing that some people associate Islam with violence.
