Next year’s will be the last series of the UK version of Big Brother.

Love it or hate it, Big Brother has been around the world - it started in the Netherlands in 1999 and almost 70 countries have tried their own version.

It’s been most popular in Britain, where many think it has changed TV forever.

Every year for ten years, a group of people have been locked in a house for several weeks with no TV, no radio, no internet and no books or newspapers.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country watches the ‘housemates’ as they clean, cook, sunbathe and argue.

Some people blame Big Brother for ‘dumbing down’ TV. But each year, thousands of ordinary people audition for the show.

Their dream is that by becoming a housemate, they will stop being ordinary, and become a celebrity.

Jade Goody became a household name in the UK, after she appeared on the show.

She was even invited back to appear on Celebrity Big Brother, the version of the show with famous contestants.

When she called Indian actress Shilpa Shetty a liar on that show, it was news around the world - an international incident.

For Britons who want reality TV fame, next year’s auditions will seem like the last chance at the dream.
