I actually think this is a very plain-speaking song - there aren't really metaphors in there, there's not really slang in there. It's actually a very straightforward song.
Yeah, always on my mind is a phrase that gets used when something concerns us all the time. And in this case, Elvis is concerned about a lover that he's lost because he didn't really express himself properly in the first place.
'I'm so sorry I was blind' - that's an apology. I'm so sorry I was blind is not literal. It just means that he wasn't seeing what he should have seen. So it's not physical sight, it's down to his attitude towards things. | |
