Bromsgrove Guild Lead Satyr mask

Lead mask of a satyr, a creature of classical mythology, modelled by Victor Voitz who was a member of the Bromsgrove Guild of Applied Arts.

The Bromsgrove Guild was a collective of talented craftsmen from all over the world founded in 1898 by Walter Gilbert. With its base in the small Worcestershire town of Bromsgrovem The Guild won international acclaim and commissions for plasterwork, metalwork, stained glass and woodwork.

Some of the most notable commissions were for the luxury liners Lusitania and Queen Mary, the wrought iron gates of Buckingham Palace, and Liverpool's Liver Birds.

The Bromsgrove Guild closed in 1966 but left a strong legacy of craftsmanship in Worcestershire which lives on in the Worcestershire Guild of Designer Craftsmen.
