Stained Glass

Contributed by Plas Newydd

Plas Newydd is an historic house that was once owned by the so-called Ladies of Llangollen, who caused a stir in society in the 1800s by setting up home together. Among their many visitors were the world-famous figures, the Duke of Wellington, Sir Walter Scott and Wordsworth.

The house is full of stained glass, taken from old buildings rather than specially commissioned for the house. It is not known where much of the glass came from, but some of it dates to as early as 1500. In the past there was much more stained glass in the house, but this has disappeared over the years.
