Borrowers Register, Innerpeffray Library

The Library's Borrower's Register is a hand written account that records all the local people who borrowed books from 1747 onwards, their name, address and occupation: a priceless piece of social history for this quiet corner of Perthshire in Scotland.

It embodies the spirit of Scottish learning that ignited the Enlightenment and brings home to me the personal value and pleasure of reading. It is an incredible way to touch the past - seeing the people and the books they chose to take home across the farmland and read by candlelight after a hard days work.
