Castle Three Car

The Castle Three car is the only known surviving example of this model which was made by The Castle Motor Company of New Road, Kidderminster.

The Castle Three is a two seater with a Dicky seat. It is a three wheeler, which unlike some other three-wheeled cars had its one wheel at the back rather than the front. It has a 1207cc engine and we know that in 1921 the original owner paid £222.10 for his Castle Three.

Unlike most three-wheeled "cycle-cars" of the era, this one was designed more like a four-wheeler with a pressed steel chassis and a four cylinder engine and was clearly aimed at the higher end of the small car market. However, this model was built only between 1919 and 1922 and just 350 of these Castle Three cars were produced.

It was made at a time when motoring and motor manufacturing was just starting to take off and many small companies were springing up throughout the UK. Like many small companies, the castle Motor Comapny was effectively put out of business in 1922 by the introduction of the Austin "Seven", a small car that could be purchased for under £200.
