Girandole

Temple Newsam is one of the great historic estates in England. Set within over 1500 acres of parkland, woodland and farmland landscaped by Capability Brown in the 18th century, it is a magnificent Tudor-Jacobean mansion. Famous as the birthplace of Lord Darnley and home to the Ingram family for over 300 years, the mansion houses rich collections of works of art.

There are two of these picturesque wall lights, supplied in 1745/6 by James Pascall. They were part of a suite ordered by Henry VII Viscount Irwin in 1746 which also included twenty chairs, four settees, a daybed, two pairs of tables and eight candle stands. The suite, which cost £364 16s is the finest early-rococo ensemble in Britain.
