Spinning Wheel

The wooden spinning wheel is a copy of an C18th wheel. This would have been used to spin woollen yarn. The spinning wheel was replaced by machinery - firstly the Spinning Jenny and then the Spinning Mule. The introduction of machinery would have led to spinners losing their jobs. The advent of machinery enabled the expansion of the woollen industry and the building of mill complexes in the town.
