The clock is known as a Postman's Alarm. It is decorated with a painted hunting scene and dates from the 1840s. It chimes on the hour and has an 8 day movement. The chains and weights would hang down on two sides, with one side lowering until 8 days had passed, at which point the chain on the other side would have been pulled down. It was repaired in 1870. Germany was the heart of mechanical engineering during the 19th century.
