This is a unique artefact from a shipwreck that captures a moment in maritime history as British sailors explored the modern World. The pan weight was used in trade and carried the Queen's monogram, this version being used from 1588 to Elizabeth the First's death. England under Gloriana achieved wealth, power and greatness it had never known before. In broad terms, the importance of the Alderney wreck lies in the fact that it is the only ship from this pivotal period to be found and excavated in British waters. The artefact is owned and conserved by The Alderney Maritime Trust.
