Typewriter

Contributed by Kingston Park Primary - Newcastle Upon Tyne

This is my grandads typewriter. It was made in Leicester and Hull. The typewriter was one of the greatest inventions of the 19th century in communication technology. Now people use computers instead of typewriters. Typewriters did not become common in offices until after the mid 1880's. This worked very well for businesses because it was much quicker than writing with pen and paper. It also introduced women into the work place.
