The Mortlock Building

The Mortlock Building came from Lavenham, Suffolk, and was used as a workshop for the repair of steam traction engines. It now houses some of the museum's steam engines. These engines changed the face of agriculture across the world. They were used for ploughing, running machinery and transporting machinery from farm to farm. Steam Traction Engines meant that far fewer farm workers were needed and were the predecessors of the tractor.
