This historical book, published in 1895, is the story of the Dutch Republic's invasion on the River Medway.
The book was written by John Copland and was published by S. Cole, Printer and Publisher of Sheerness who was also the publisher of the Sheerness Times.
The Preface of the book contains the authors reasoning for sharing the story as:
"The local interest of the particulars of the Dutch invasion - from Sheerness being the point of English soil captured - is the excuse of the compiler, as a Sheerness man, for gathering together the details of this compliation, particularly so as the sources from which it is gathered are not generally or easily accessible."
