Glass from the Crystal Palace.

This item is a small piece of glass from the original building, known as the Crystal Palace, that housed the Great Exhibition in 1851.

The item was owned by my Great Great Auntie Ada, now 100 years old.

Great Great Auntie Ada would have acquired the glass some time after the fire that destroyed the building, which was in November 1936.

I have always been fascinated by having such a small piece of such a famous building.

After the fire a lot of people travelled to see what was left, Ada being one of them. This chunk of glass was lying on the ground so she picked it up and kept it.
