Irish Dancer's Cape

Contributed by Mid Antrim Museum Ballymena

We hear much about the 'dark satanic mills' of industry but not so much about the community and fellowship which took place in these mills. The Braid Water Spinning Company was a major employer in Ballymena for many years. In 1945, a Recreation Club was founded there which was enthusiasticly supported by the workers. It had a highly successful and award winning Irish Dancing Team, Gymnastic Club, Table Tennis Club and an Annual Mill Ball at which a Miss Braid Water was chosen and entered to the Miss Irish Linen contest.
