When demolishing an old wash house (with a copper in the corner) just outside the back door of my house, I found this pipe under the brick floor in the cavity below. Also I found other objects including a shoemakers last.
My house was built in 1882 - I am not sure when the wash house was built.
The pipe has writing on both sides of the stem. One side says BELGRAVE GATE, on the other side are more letters: the words MAKER 47 GEORGE.
On the bowl of the pipe there are three letters around the edge: C C C (I wonder if this is something to do with cricket.) Also on the bowl of the pipe are 2 men shaking hands. We shall be contacting an expert on pipes whose details we have been given by Radio Leicester.
