Wrought Iron ornamental spider

This wrought iron spider is one of several samples on display in the museum made by local blacksmith Arthur Holloway of Bradfield in Berskhire in the early twentieth century. The collection includes several small creatures also made from iron, such as snakes, snails, a frog, a butterfly and a lizard, as well as some slightly larger decorative pieces. They are good examples of the fine detailing and delicate creative iron work that could be achieved by a master craftsman who has developed his skills over a lifetime. These objects were often mounted to candlesticks and other decorative objects for the home that Mr Holloway made at his forge.
