First World War Medals and Brooch.

My great, great grandfather, William (Bill) Williams was born in 1895. He served on the Royal Naval Battle Cruiser HMS Lion During the Great War. This was the flagship at the Battle of Jutland. The gold medal on a gold and navy ribbon is engraved "The Great War for Civilisation" 1914-1919. The silver medal on a rainbow ribbon has King George IVs head on it. I think it is the Victory Medal. The medals are in their original box, alongside the anchor brooch, which he sent home in 1916. The anchor is silver with a gold scroll engraved HMS Lion. This all makes me think of the history of my own family, which in turn becomes the history of our country.
"Sailor Bill", as he was known, served in both wars, joining the merchant navy when the 1914-1918 war ended. He served on SS Rockville, formerly SS Orenie of Bideford and went to Dunkirk and later Normandy on D Day. It was sailing to Europe when VE signalled that the war was over.
