Chris Matthews found this gold mourning ring at Wolverton, Warwickshire in 2009. It has a scull on the outside and bears the inscription "Allice Wagstaffe 5 Nov 81" He believed it to be a 1600's mourning ring. Research into Wolverton records drew a blank, but Chris traced the name to Bishops Tachbrook church.A monument to John Wagstaffe shows he was married to Alice who died on the 4th November 1681. Alice was the daughter of Thomas Stanton of Wolverdington (Wolverton). The Stanton family were Lords of the Manor of Wolverton for nearly 200 years. Monuments to the family can be found in Wolverton church. The ring has been declared as treasure trove and we believe Warwick Museum are interested in purchasing it.
