Lamellaphone

The Lamellaphone or finger piano is a musical instrument used by the Hutu people in Lake Kivu in Rwanda. It was collected by Maurice, 4th Baron Egerton of Tatton, during his travels in Africa in 1932. Maurice Egerton was a world wide traveller and amassed a vast collection of ethnographic and natural history items, which he carefully catalogued and displayed in the Tenants Hall at Tatton Park. Some of his collection is now displayed in a purpose-built exhibition about his life and interests at Tatton. Each generation of the Egerton family collected something interesting to add to the rich heritage at Tatton Park. Maurice Egerton's collection is perhaps the most unusual and shows his incredible fascination in the culture and peoples of other regions of the world.
