The securing tapes have been cut, probably when the jacket was removed from the survivor.Cork 'overhead' lifejacket with canvas covering, worn by a survivor
of the Titanic sinking. This was obtained as a souvenir by Ernest St.
Clair of Liverpool, a young waiter on SS Carpathia, the ship which
rescued all 705 survivors of one of the worst maritime disasters in
history. Both Titanic and Carpathia were Liverpool-registered ships
and many of the officers and crew on both ships had strong
Liverpool connections. Mr St Clair presented this lifejacket and
two hole pins from a Titanic lifeboat to Liverpool Museums in
the early 1960s.
