Children's Tea service

This is a scaled down version of a tea set produced in around 1800. Tea sets like this were made for the girls of wealthy families to help them learn the all-important art of serving tea. It was always the duty of the lady of the house to prepare and pour tea as it was a very expensive luxury. The little girl could imitate her mother with a tea-pot, tea bowl, a lidded sugar bowl and plate for biscuits. The cup with the handle was for coffee and because the saucer was designed to be used with either the coffee cup or tea bowl it is flat with no well in the centre. This dainty set was made by Chamberlain's Worcester porcelain factory.
