The collar belonged to Sarah Ponsonby's dog, "Chance". The tapestry on the wall dates from the 1880s and was commissioned by General Yorke, who owned the property and who had known the Ladies when he was a boy. It is taken from a portrait of the Ladies painted after their deaths. The label on the collar reads "Plas Newydd". Chance turned up to Plas Newydd after Eleanor's death is 1829. Sarah was clearing some things of Eleanor's out, but Chance barked at her as she was doing so. perhaps believing there to be some link, Sarah adopted the dog, giving him the fortuitous name. The dog was her companion until her own death two years later.
