Whitefriars Glass

Whitefriars Glass was originally made in the City of London before the factory moved to the Harrow area in the 1920s. This type of glass is famed for its beautiful colours and amazing designs, and is now highly valued and collectable. The image on display shows examples of Whitefriars Glass on display at Harrow Museum. Not only are they beautiful objects, but they remind us of the development of modern Harrow - lots of people moved to the area for work due to the Whitefriars, Kodak and Hamiltons factories. The factories themselves were created in Harrow due to the development of the tube network, in particular the Metropolitan Line. Today many people have relatives in the Harrow area who worked at the Whitefriars factory, who are keen to see items that were created locally on display at their local museum.
