When she was carved Jersey was the fourth largest shipbuilding centre in the British Isles. The Prospero spent most of her time trading in China and Australia but more specifically, in 1864, Captain Malzard took a cargo 2,500 miles up the Amazon to Iquitos, Peru.
Malzard finally sold the Prospero to Joseph Storm of Adelaide for £3,000 in late 1869 and her registry was closed in London on 7 January 1870. In the 1920s and 1930s she was still active in the Sydney area.
Island-built ships and Jersey sailors were active throughout the world.
