The true birth of The Beatles is the day that John Lennon met Paul McCartney, this happened at the side of this stage.Across 1950s Britain, rock'n'roll music exploded into the lives of teenagers. This american invasion was rebellious, dangerous and exciting. For many growing up in Liverpool, life and music would never be the same again. Inspired by Lonnie Donegan, John Lennon and his teenage school friends began playing the easier â??skiffleâ?? music. They formed the group The Quarry Men and played one of their first gigs at St Peter's Church village fete. In the audience was another music fan, 15 year old Paul McCartney. He was introduced to John backstage as the group waited to perform at the evening dance. Paul played one of his favourite songs â??Twenty Flight Rockâ??. John was impressed and a few weeks later he asked Paul to join the band. Many places lay a valid claim for where The Beatles phenomenon began. It really began the day that John met Paul, at the side of this ordinary looking stage, in St Peter's Church Hall in Woolton on 6th July 1957.
