Beer was brewed in Dorchester over seven generations from the 17th century until 1996.In 1880 Eldridge Pope built its new brewery on land near Dorchester South station and became the largest employer in the town. The company used the history of brewing in Dorchester to promote the company: In the 1920s the image of a smiling huntsman was adopted for beer sales, which gave the name to a new brand image, Huntsman Ales, and linked beers to the English countryside. This model of the brewery was made by the Eldridge Pope coppersmiths and is so accurate it could almost be used to brew a thimbleful of beer Breweries looked very much like this model until the 1950s when copper stills were replaced by stainless steel. You can follow the whole brewing process using the model - which shows the making of India Pale Ale.
