The Raconteurs

Raconteurs' rush release

Band surprise fans with album date
18 March 08 - There’s going to be a new Raconteurs album in the shops in just seven days as the band have decided to rush release Consolers of the Lonely on all formats on 25 March.

Jack White's other band say they want to get their second album directly to fans before it’s defined by first week sales, pre-release promotion or radio play.

So, the record is coming out just weeks after it was finished. It was mastered and completed in the first week of March and it was then taken immediately to vinyl and CD pressing plants and then prepared for digital release.

Getting record to fans

The band said: “We wanted to get this record to fans, the press, radio, etc all at the exact same time so that no one has an upper hand on anyone else regarding its availability, reception or perception.

“We wanted to explore the idea of releasing an album everywhere at once and then marketing and promoting it thereafter.

“The Raconteurs would rather this release not be defined by it’s first weeks sales, pre-release promotion, or by someone defining it for you before you get to hear it.”

All formats at the same time

They are determined to have the record available on all formats and from all retailers at the same time.

This means fans have their own choice as to exactly which format they would like to hear the album in immediately, rather than having to wait for their favourite format to become available.

The band went on: “We hope not to confuse anyone with too many options, or deny them the formats that they like best.

Where to get

The album will be out on full length vinyl, CD and digital formats and places where people can access the album includes retailers, corporate superstores, supermarkets, iTunes, Amazon and the band’s own website.

They said: “The Raconteurs feel very strongly that music has worth and should be treated as such. Thank you to all those who respect music in this fashion.”

Great move from the guys there, and i agree totally Phil, Swansea, the album is a corker! Like listening to a greatest hits compilation without the cheese! Every song is fantastic...

Phil, Swansea.
An innovative move from an innovative band. In these days of plastic popstars, it's refreshing to see music coming before money, as it should be. And what an album it is! 10 out of 10.
