Glasto 2005 ends in style
Headliners triumph, Garbage to split?
27 June 05 - Glastonbury 2005 ended on a high last night with storming headline sets from Basement Jaxx and Ian Brown.Basement Jaxx whipped up the party atmosphere and led another heartfelt tribute to Kylie Minogue, with the second festival cover version of Can't Get You Out Of My Head.
Ian Brown headlined the Other stage, playing a slew of Stone Roses classics and solo material. He was joined by former Stone Roses cohort, Mani, who'd already appeared earlier in the day with Primal Scream.
Fans who spoke to 6 Music gave their highlights from yesterday's shows. One told us: "Rufus Wainright. He just makes you cry." His set on the Other stage was a big hit, and saw the singer songwriter perform with his sister, Martha who had appeared in her own right on the Other stage earlier in the day.
Several other fans we spoke to chose Brian Wilson as their favourite set. The somewhat frail former Beach Boy played a stellar set on the Pyramid stage, even though he was reading his lyrics from the autocue.
Meanwhile, Garbage played the Pyramid Stage before Primal Scream and Basement Jaxx but hinted it could be their last Glastonbury appearance. Butch and Steve told 6 Music that making their latest album, Bleed Like Me was such a gruelling task, they can't face making another one at the moment.
The Bravery followed Rufus Wainwright on the Other stage, with lead singer Sam Endicott diving into the stage during their hit, An Honest Mistake, and bassist Mike H stripping totally naked onstage.
For dance fans, this year's festival was the first time the 'silent disco' had been tested out in the West Coast Tent. Clubbers enjoyed the DJ sets via headphones in a bid to combat noise complaints from people living close to the site.
In terms of crime on the Glastonbury site this year, the police say it has has been extremely safe. Crime, excluding drug related offences, was forty per cent down on last year. However, figures show that drugs offences are up.
