Glastonbury 2004

Glasto safest yet so far

Crime figures at an all-time low
25 June 05 - Glastonbury Festival is so far one the safest ever, as day two draws to a close.

Excluding drugs offences, just 45 crimes have now been reported to police, 57 percent down on 2004's record crime lows.

The 45 offences are made up of two robberies, 12 instances of thefts from tents, four reported vehicle break ins and five assaults.

Including drug offences, there has been 180 reported crimes - meaning drugs offences make up 75 per cent of this year's reported crime.

According to Avon and Somerset police, the overall detection rate at this year's festival also remains high at 67 per cent.

Arrests currently stand at 78 compared to 91 at this time in 2004.

Meanwhile, there's no more news on the man who died on site on Friday evening.

The dead man, who is believed to be 25 years old and from the Street area of Somerset, is still subject to a full post mortem - the results of which are not yet known.

However, at this time the death is not being treated as suspicious.

The dropping crime rates are gonna be really useful in persuading my parents to pay for tickets to Glasto, as I've never been to a festival in my life (and I don't think they have either!), so keep it up please!!!

Micheal Eavis for World leader! Safest year yet and even the Somme-like conditions failed to put a dampner (no pun intended!) on things! What is Paul from Cornwalls' problem-even the unemployed are entitled to entertainment-as long as the ticket money is not proceeds of benefit fraud I fail to see the issue?!

In answer to Paul Camborne of Cornwall: Two thirds of the festival took place over a weekend, when believe it or not even those seeking work are granted rest and relaxation. Secondly, it is not "your" tax. That is why it is taken from you. A good job that is too, as how else would they pay for this enquiry (sic) idea of yours? Thirdly, I think you'll find that Glastonbury-goers who also happen to be on the dole may often be graduates still struggling to pay off student debts and thereby well versed in overdrafts, credit cards and the like. I'm assuming this to be the case as it was hard to get a ticket without having to employ some intelligence. And I went and met your typical punter personally. He was alright, and so was his missus. You never know, they may have generous friends and family who bought them a ticket, though it's doubtful that you would understand that concept.

I was one of the peeps who got their car broken by some kind person trying to pinch it but I did not report it as all I can say is I have a cleo and if you can't steal that then I think you should give up the day job who ever you are your no good at it!!!! but all in all glasto still rocks in my book roll on 2007 fingers crossed my 5th year!

ALL I CAN SAY IS WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO WORKED SO HARD TO MAKE 2005 A GOOD ONE.I WAS ON SITE YESTERDAY AND FELT THE SAFEST I HAVE EVER FELT AT ANY FESTIVAL.I THINK IT IS A GOOD THING THERE IS NO FESTI NEXT YEAR BECAUSE THE LAND NEEDS TO RECOVER FROM THE TRIALS OF FRIDAY AND IT GIVES THE LOCAL RESIDENTS A REST.SEE YOU ALL IN 2007 XX

Thats insane, someone died at a festival...!!!

Paul Camborne Cornwall
I hope the dss where at Glastobury checking all people entering were not on the dole, dole reciepients are supposed to be activly seeking work and not spending my tax on this rubbish. Also those who were there who were on the dole, I hope the dss launch enquiries into how and where they got there money from to go to Glastonbury.
