The person invited to give the first lecture was Pete Townshend, an elder statesman of British music, a maverick and trendsetter in his own right.
Pete examines the current state of music media and ask the question "Can John Peelism survive the Internet?" That is to say, in an age of free downloads and a disposable attitude to music, can "creative" people earn a living, and without radio how can the 'unpolished' music that John Peel championed find an audience?
The BBC 6 Music John Peel Lecture with Pete Townshend was broadcast live on 6 Music at 19:00 on Monday 31 October 2011.
