5 live's City of 2012

Terms and Conditions

In early 2012 the UK will get a new city as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. We are going to create our own 5 live city through nominations and a text vote.

The idea is not to run in competition with the official process taking place, but to allow any area to be nominated using our own criteria. Size and status doesn't matter, it's all about how special the area where you live is.

Obviously current cities can't apply. Tony Livesey will present his programme from the winning "city" in its honour.

Terms and Conditions

1. Nominations will be open from 9th January 2012 as announced during the Breakfast show and will close at 23.59 on 15th January 2012.

2. Nominations can only be made by filling out and submitting the online nomination form which can be found at bbc.co.uk/5live

3. Any place in the UK may be nominated, other than any place that already has city status. Please note that nominations should not be made as a means to promote any private business venture.

4. The nominations will be shortlisted by the Core News team at 5 live.

5. On Monday 16th January 2012, 3 nominations will be picked by a panel on the Tony Livesey show from the shortlist. There will also be an on air discussion.

6. Listeners will be invited to vote for their favourite shortlisted nomination/s during the Breakfast show on Tuesday 17th January 2012 and until vote close in Breakfast at 0800 on Friday 20th January 2012. The winner will then be announced just before 0900 on the same day.

7. Votes received outside the specified times will not be counted, but may still be charged. Voting times may change.

8. Vote is only by texting the word "city" followed by the shortlisted nomination you wish to vote for, to the shortcode: 85058. The words to key-in for each shortlisted entry will be announced when the vote is launched.

9. Texts will be charged at your standard message rate. Check with your network provider for exact costs. Please seek the bill-payer's permission before voting.

10. The BBC's decision as to the shortlisted nominations and the winner is final. No correspondence relating to the awards will be entered into.

11. Please note that any BBC staff member or anyone who is directly connected in any way with the production of the programme is not eligible to vote.

12. The BBC reserves the right to disqualify votes if it has reasonable grounds to suspect that fraudulent voting has occurred or if it considers there has been any deliberate attempt to manipulate the result.

13. There will be no prize for anyone taking part in the vote.

14. The BBC will only ever use your mobile number for the purposes of processing refunds or investigating possible voting irregularities and will not publish or provide it to anyone without permission, except where required for enforcement of these terms. You can read more about the BBC Privacy Policy here.

15. The BBC reserves the right to: (i) vary the opening times of the nominations and vote; (ii) disqualify any nomination that breaches the rules or is fraudulent in any way; and (iii) cancel the event, at any stage, if in its opinion it is deemed necessary or if circumstances arise outside its control.

16. The BBC, its sub-contractors, subsidiaries and/or agencies cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem which may result in any nomination or vote not properly registered or delayed.

17. This vote accords with the BBC's Code of Conduct for Competitions and Voting, details of which can be found on the BBC'S Code of Conduct for Competitions and Voting.

18. The promoter of the awards is the British Broadcasting Corporation and these terms and conditions are subject to the laws of England and Wales.
