The Gravell sisters are looking forward to their mascot honour |
Late rugby legend Ray Gravell's young daughters will lead out the Welsh team for the Six Nations decider against France in Cardiff on Saturday. Manon, 12, and Gwenan, nine, have been chosen as the match-day mascots for the clash at the Millennium Stadium.
Their father, who played for Wales and the British Lions before becoming a broadcaster, died last year.
Thousands of people packed into Llanelli's Stradey Park, near his Mynyddygarreg home, for the funeral.
The sisters, who both support Llanelli Scarlets, said it was a dream come true to lead out the team for the national anthems.
Gwenan said it would be a "very special" day for them both.
"It's an honour to be mascot for the Welsh team and to share this experience with my sister, Manon," she added.
The girls' father died suddenly on holiday in October |
They are hoping the Scarlets' pairing of Dwayne Peel and Stephen Jones will be selected for the scrum-half and outside-half positions, as they said they were among their favourite players.
The girls will be special guests for the day of the Welsh Rugby Union and the mascot sponsor.
Ray Gravell, who was known as Grav, died while on holiday with his family in Spain at the age of 56, last October.
Tributes were paid to the player, a member of Wales' all-conquering team of the 1970s, by leading figures across the rugby world and elsewhere in Welsh public life.
After he retired from rugby, he became a popular broadcaster with both BBC Wales and S4C and an actor.
Wales go into Saturday's match having already secured the Triple Crown and looking for the Grand Slam while France have to beat them by a 20 point margin to take the championship title.
