Three people in Swansea caught smoking at the Quadrant bus station have become the first in the city to be fined. Enforcement officers said they targeted the station as a "hotspot" where the Wales-wide ban introduced in April was being flouted.
All three will now have to pay 50 or risk going to court.
Swansea Council said the majority of people and businesses were respecting the law which bans them from smoking in enclosed public spaces.
Its health promotion officer Chris Steele: "These are the first fixed penalties we have issued since the ban.
"However, there are some areas of the city we have identified as hotspots which we are focusing on."
