The Princess Royal meets Ospreys players at the Liberty Stadium |
The Princess Royal met Swansea's leading sports stars as she officially opened the city's Liberty Stadium. Footballer Lee Trundle and Wales rugby captain Duncan Jones were among those introduced to Princess Anne.
She unveiled a plaque ahead of Friday's first Heineken Cup match of the season between the Ospreys regional rugby team and Sale Sharks.
The 20,000 all-seater ground, which opened in July 2005, is also home to Swansea City FC.
Swansea Council leader Chris Holley said: "The Liberty Stadium is one of Swansea's greatest assets. It has breathed new life into the city and the region.
"Whenever I meet visitors at the stadium they are overwhelmed by the standard of facilities available - it truly is a 21st century stadium.
"We now have some of the finest sports facilities in Britain with the Liberty Stadium, Wales National Pool and the regional sports village."
The stadium, built on former industrial waste ground at Landore, replaced Swansea City's Vetch Field ground.
