Library to reopen after repairs
Swansea library
Each brick was numbered and placed back in the original position
Swansea central library is to reopen, three months after the listed building was shut because of safety fears.

Workmen have replaced a rotting beam that caused structural problems in the 100-year-old building.

Since July users either had to use a mobile service or one of the branch libraries outside the city centre.

Swansea Council has plans to relocate the library in Alexandra Road to County Hall as part of its plan to turn the seafront building into a civic centre.

Library staff have been working to restock the shelves ready for the reopening on Monday.

Reinforced concrete was used to replace the rotting beam and other timbers hit by dry rot were also replaced.

Every brick that was removed during the work had to be numbered and placed back in its original position.

Council cabinet member Gerald Clement said: "It has been a considerable challenge to carry out this work, especially as the central library is a listed building."
