An oil company will be prosecuted after 600 tonnes of kerosene escaped from a leak in a storage tank in west Wales.

A clean-up operation lasted several months after the spill from the Petroplus site near Milford Haven.

The sands at Hazelbeach were placed off limits in August and some nearby residents complained of feeling unwell.

The Environment Agency confirmed on Wednesday it had initiated legal proceedings against Petroplus as a result of the incident.

The move has been welcomed by Pembrokeshire Friends of the Earth.

Group spokesman Baz Samhradh said: "The Environment Agency has taken a while over this, but we're pleased they're going to prosecute."
