Corus said the investment would help keep Trostre competitive |
Steelmaker Corus says it is to invest 700,000 on machinery to keep its tinplate works in Llanelli competitive. The steel giant said the investment was "good news" for the Trostre plant which employs around 900 people.
It said the money was part of a number of changes planned for the Llanelli site that would see one line closed and security at the plant outsourced.
A total of 32 posts will be affected but staff will either be redeployed or offered work with outside contactors.
Trostre is part of Corus Packaging Plus which makes products used in the beverage and food industries.
A company spokesman said the nvestment would be used to upgrade a coil inspection facility and introduce a new weigh bridge.
"It's good news for the plant and will help keep it competitive," he said.
Last year Corus shed around 80 jobs at Trostre, the majority of posts were administrative or in accounts.
