The green, green grass? Maize marks out the Tom Jones maze |
How unusual - a giant image of Welsh singing legend Tom Jones is at the centre of a newly-planted maze. The tribute to Pontypridd-born Jones has been sown at a tourtist attraction to mark the superstar's 65th birthday.
Staff at Heatherton Country Sports Park near Tenby count themselves among the singer's biggest fans.
When fully-grown, the maze, created in a five-acre maize field, will stand up to 13ft tall - although Jones' image can only be seen from the air.
Visitors tackling the puzzle, which is made up by over four miles of pathways, will be posed a series of pop music questions - including some about the singer.
It will be be open to the public from 16 July and remain open throughout the summer season before the maize is harvested at the end of August.
Gemma Watkins, marketing manager at Heatherton, said: "We just thought it would be nice to celebrate his 65th birthday because he came to Ponty this year.
"Most of the women who work here went to the concert and they really enjoyed it."
This is the fourth year a maize has been created at Heatherton.
Ms Watkins added: "The first year there was a traditional maze then we started our own themes. Two years ago we did a Ryan Giggs maze."
She said Jones' management company had given its blessing and was providing a signed photograph of the singer as a prize for the person who answers the most questions.
"They were really nice about it," she added.
