Fishermen airlifted to hospital
Airlift rescue at Port Talbot harbour
One of those rescued has recently undergone major surgery
Two men have been airlifted to hospital after one of them fell into the water at Port Talbot harbour.

The men, who were fishing on Tuesday morning, were rescued by lifeboat and flown by an RAF helicopter to Singleton Hospital in Swansea.

A spokesman for Swansea Coastguard said their condition was unknown.

But there was concern for one of the men as he had recently undergone heart surgery.

Steve Jones, duty watch manager at the Swansea Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), said neither of the men was wearing a life jacket and they did not have a VHF radio with them.

"There are rough seas with gale force winds on scene. Both men had been fishing overnight and were returning to shore when the incident occurred.

He said that anyone putting to sea should check the weather forecast should ensure that their vessel is fit for purpose, according to the limitations of the weather.
