Swansea will become one of NTL's three flagship sites

The city is one of three sites to benefit as the firm seeks to concentrate its staff in the UK.

The company - Britain's biggest cable TV firm - is cutting the number of its centres from 13 to three with the loss of around 1,500 jobs.

Swansea, Glasgow and Manchester will become flagship centres under the business review.

NTL's currently employs around 1,000 people in Swansea.

The extra posts will range from customer service roles to back office support and management jobs.

Natural wastage

A spokesman for the firm said it is looking to recruit people of all ages, but it is particularly interested in taking on workers over the age of 50.

NTL came out of bankruptcy protection in the United States last year and has been looking to cut costs.

Last autumn it announced it was planning to cut its 14,000 strong workforce by around 15% through a combination of phased job cuts and natural wastage.

Chief Executive, Simon Duffy, said: "NTL has made good progress in improving its customer service, but we still have some way to go.

"The consolidation of our call centres and investment in leading-edge technology is a critical step on our path to greatly improved service for our customers."

NTL has premises, but not a call centre, in Cardiff Bay but a spokesman said this is not affected by Wednesday's announcement.
