Salubrious Place
The complex will form phase two of the Salubrious Place scheme
A 30m cinema, restaurant and casino complex creating 400 jobs in Swansea city centre has been given the go-ahead.

The developer behind the new Premier Lodge hotel nearing completion at Wind Street has signed on to extend the scheme in the cafe quarter.

Planning applications have been lodged with work due to start this summer.

Brunswick Mansford Ltd says it is in talks with major companies to run the 12-screen cinema and other units which should open in late 2006.

We are confident that we will secure a first class tenant line up for this project
Richard Hayward, developer

The company has almost completed phase one of the scheme, known as Salubrious Place, which includes the 116-bedroom hotel, 256-space NCP car park and eateries.

I Byron Owen, the city's cabinet member for development, said, "I am delighted with the scheme and the fact that the overall development of phases one and two will provide in excess of 600 jobs.

He said it will also provide a significant number of construction jobs.

The new leisure complex has been promoted by the council and Welsh Development Agency.

Developer Richard Hayward said: "Not only is phase one coming to completion but phase two is already well advanced.

"We are confident that we will secure a first class tenant line up for this project."

The cinema entrance and additional casino entrance will be on York Street which is becoming a new pedestrianised boulevard linking the new maritime museum to the city centre.
