The Welsh assembly will have the final say on the mergers |
Parents in Swansea say they will fight the merger of an infants and junior school in the city. Swansea council has decided to merge Gwyrosydd Infant and Junior schools to form a new primary school in Treboeth.
It follows the decision by senior teachers at the school to retire.
But parents say they will fight the decision and have collected 350 names for a petition against the merger.

Their fears include a lack of communal space to accommodate the whole school, a possible loss in funding and teacher redundancies.
Parent Judith Lattka said people had a two month consultation period to lodge objections.
"We are not giving up," she said.
"I will be writing a letter myself to send off."
If the council receives any objections then it must refer the final decision to the Welsh assembly.
But council cabinet member for education John Miles said the plans would be a boost for children and staff at the schools.
He said, "Primary schools give pupils a broader education and experience, it will make a big difference to them.
"It also helps teachers gain experience by working with children aged from three to 11.
"It also provides children with a better education and a greater wealth of experience.
"We want to continue to create primary schools throughout Swansea because we believe it is the best way forward for pupils and staff."
A merger of Birchgrove Infant and Junior schools has also been approved by the council's cabinet.
